Description
Leadership skills highly influence team performance, colleague and staff engagement and the potential for innovation in a research group. Skillful leadership is particularly needed when operating in heterogenous group settings, e.g., in terms of world views, areas of interest, personalities, age, cultures, (formal and informal) hierarchies, and gender. Leading by example can help effectively teaming up of scientific, teaching and administrative staff and can create many opportunities for extraordinary results. Yet, diversity entails challenges at the individual and group scales. While every person in each field of work has a contribution to make to some bigger goal, it can get lost in unfavourable group dynamics, misunderstandings, (subtle) conflicts and competing priorities. Project processes can feel highly ineffective and complicated rather than creating the leverage effects they are meant to produce. Furthermore, women in particular face challenges on their leadership path due to systemic biases.
This two-day workshop aims to equip female researchers and science support staff with effective tools for stepping into 360° leadership roles. The workshop emphasizes leading by example through practicing vulnerability, candid communication, and making meaningful contributions to a group, which are essential for creating a positive team environment. By fostering these qualities and identifying authentic (female) leadership values, participants will be better equipped to drive innovation, learning, creativity, and well-being within their teams. The workshop provides practical tools based on conscious and transformational leadership, enhancing the ability to build trust, motivate team members, and create a collaborative atmosphere. Additionally, it covers building strong work relationships, supporting students and team members in their professional development, and cultivating responsibility and ownership in everyone in the team.
