The 17th Bioinformatics Research and Education Workshop

BREW is a workshop for PhD students in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, that aims to give an introduction to scientific conferences, including paper writing, submission and peer review. All participants must submit a paper and take part in reviewing papers from other participants in order to attend the workshop. At the workshop, all participants will present their paper in a short talk.
Participation and Important Dates
Registration by March 1, 2019
For the registration you only need the title of the paper you intend to write. Submission of your title can be done through EasyChair (https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=brew2019). Please contact us under brew@molgen.mpg.de if you have problems with EasyChair or any other questions.
Paper submission by March 29, 2019
Please submit a 4-6 page PDF of your paper. Submission of your paper is again done through EasyChair (https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=brew2019). Please have a look at the paper guidelines before submitting.
Reviews submission by May 3, 2019
After the paper submission, everyone will receive the papers of two other participants. Everyone is expected to read both papers carefully and to write a review for both in preparation for the workshop. Please submit your reviews through EasyChair (https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=brew2019) and have a look at our review guidelines before submitting.
Workshop in Berlin on 23-24.5.2019
The workshop itself aims to answer the following questions:
- How do I write a good scientific paper?
- How does the peer review process work?
- How do I write a good review?
There will be presentations about these topics as well as a hands-on session on review writing. Additionally, everyone will give a short presentation of their paper. Each participant will have 15 minutes to present his/her paper followed by 5 minutes to answer questions. Due to the large diversity of participants' topics, the presentation is expected to have a broad introduction about the research field.
