Overview:

The microscopy unit at the "Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics" provides central scientific service open to all groups within the institute.

Some methods which are established:

- visualization of interactions of DNA with DNA-binding proteins

- fine structural analyses of protein complexes, organelles, phages and their components with negative stain and after cryo preparation in vitrified ice

- ultra-thin sections; immuno labeling in solution of particles or on ultra-thin sections

There is close cooperation with Cryo-EM group. Together we are running three transmission electron microscopes: Philips CM100, FEI Tecnai G2 Spirit and the high end Cryo TEM , FEI Tecnai G2 Polara (for details see equipment).

Support is provided for five fluorescence or confocal microscopes: Zeiss LSM510, LSM510 meta, LSM700, AxioImager Z1 and an Olympus IX81 inverted fluorescence system.
