30S-Tetracycline complex

Tetracycline is a wide-spectrum antibiotic.

Functional target site: binding of tRNA to the A-site (30S). Therefore, the structural data showing binding of   tetracycline to the TET-1 site explains this functional data.

We identified six tetracycline-binding sites on the 30S subunit. Relative occupancies: 1 to 0.41

This explains the sometimes contradictory biochemical and functional data for tetracycline binding to the 30S subunits

T. thermophilus 30S with the antibiotic tetracycline showing the six binding sites of the antibiotic. The TET-1 site is highlighted in red. Proteins interacting with tetracycline are shown in color and are labeled. The 16 RNA is in gray.

The atomic coordinates can be found in the Protein data bank (PDB)
