within the SysMO Project

Systems Biology in Micro-organisms (SysMO) is a transnational initiative for the funding of research which is financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) together with the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Culture in Austria, the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research, the Research Council of Norway, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council of the United Kingdom and Ministry of Education and Science in Spain.

The Computational Systems Biology Group at the Max-Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics is partner in the project “Gene interaction networks and models of cation homeostasis in Saccharomyces cerevisiae –TRANSLUCENT” with further partners from Spain, Austria, The Netherlands, and Germany. Our part is in silico modelling of the cation homeostasis system in S. cerevisiae. For the work within this project, we are looking for motivated people:

A scientist (Post-Doc) for three years for modelling and comparison of individual cation transport systems in the yeast S. cerevisiae.

A scientist (Post-Doc) for two years for establishing a database and defining data format, standardization and storage.

The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with the groups involved in this European project as well with scientist within the Max Planck Institute in Berlin. She/he will profit from the active Berlin bioscientific environment comprising bioinformatics, theoretical biology and biophysics as well as many mathematical and medical institutions. Candidates should have experience and scientific interests in the following fields: mathematics, physics or bioinformatics and molecular biology or biochemistry. Candidates for the Post-Doc position should either hold a Ph.D. degree or obtain it before the start of the project. Candidates for the PhD student position should have (get soon) an appropriate Master’s degree or Diploma.

Please send applications (CV with details of studies and a list of positions, list of publications, short motivation, names and contact details of two referees) before September 20, 2007.

The Max Planck Society is determined to equal opportunity employment. Qualified women are explicitly encouraged to apply since the Max-Planck-Society is committed to increasing its percentage of female employees. For applicants with equal qualifications, preference will be given to handicapped persons.
